Austin Public Library – NO HATS, NO SUNGLASSES, NO HOODIES
Last night, immediately upon entry to my local, Hampton Branch at Oak Hill, Austin Public Library, I was approached by security. I was informed that just like a bank, as of October 1, 2010. No one is allowed entry into the Austin Public Library who is wearing a hat, sunglasses, or hoodie.
That morning when I entered the Federal Credit Union (A+FCU). I saw a huge sign on the front door that said to remove hats, sunglasses, and hoodies. I was a little taken back, but being that the economy is so bad and there is an almost daily bank robbery in Austin, I removed my hat as I went about my banking business.
So, at the end of the day, when I walked into the library like I often do, I was in the library maybe a minute, wearing my hat, holding sunglasses, and bending down to look at some videos, when I was approached by security instructing me to remove my hat. I asked why? They said that there were signs posted at the entrance and that this was new policy as of Oct. 1. Just like banks, they needed to see faces to appear on video cameras.

Although, not in the Mayor’s Book Club list for ’10, Keep Austin Weird – A Guide to the Odd Side of Town by Red Wassenich is a good read for Austinites or just anybody who likes to read a book with lot’s of pictures!
I checked this book out from the City of Austin Library recently. The library is great, you can use their online queue like Netflix or Blockbuster online movie rental accounts. You have a queue in which you can fill up with movies, books, or music. They transport your requested items from all of the city to a local location for pick up. You can have the items out for three weeks and up to five movies out at a time! Why not use it, you pay for it in tax money!
I couldn’t stop reading this book, it is great!
